Strengthening AI in India: The Government’s Role
It is certainly true that artificial intelligence has become a buzzword today. From human functioning to business operations, AI at the behest of its critical applications has become a dominant force in the modern setting. However, we might mistake ourselves into thinking that AI is a recent technological breakthrough. In reality, the foundation for this state-of-the-art innovation was laid in the early 1900s. From then to now, AI has come a long way, becoming one of the transformative technologies dictating mankind today.
From e-commerce, education, and healthcare to manufacturing, marketing and entertainment, AI finds extensive applications across various sectors. As per a joint report by BCG and Nasscom, India’s AI market is growing at a CAGR of 25-35% and is projected to reach around $17 billion by 2027. This data highlights the growing prevalence of AI in the Indian market.
While the mounting prominence of artificial intelligence can be attributed to its rising acceptance amongst individuals and businesses, the government of India is also playing an equally integral role in advancing the adoption of AI. With the motive of turning artificial intelligence into a digital tool for national development, the Indian government has extended several initiatives to promote its nationwide application.
Here's a look at some government initiatives that are driving AI advancement in India:
MCA 3.0 Portal: Corporate paperwork can become a hasslesome process, given the volume of data. To promote ease of doing business, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has launched a modern digital platform-MCA 3.0 portal. Backed by AI, ML and data analytics, the portal seeks to simplify corporate filing and streamline processes. In addition, it seeks to fortify compliance monitoring and foster a balanced ecosystem for businesses, strengthening corporate governance in the country.
US-India AI initiative: Indo-US Science and Technology Forum rolled out the US-India AI initiative with the motive to build a platform to promote discussions concerning the growth of artificial intelligence and developing an AI-enabled workforce. This effort seeks to facilitate the advancement of AI through idea exchange, research and development and technological collaboration between India and US. The forum will prioritize AI cooperation in critical areas, including healthcare, agriculture, energy and manufacturing amongst others. Altogether, this will serve as a launchpad for AI innovations, strengthening science and technology ties between India and the United States.
INDIAai: The National AI Portal of India, a joint venture by MeitY and NASSCOM, focuses on fostering and nurturing a unified AI ecosystem. It attempts to invite entrepreneurs, students, professionals, academics, and everyone else to become a part of the AI community. The portal serves as a central source for all things AI, offering information, resources, and updates on significant developments in the field. INDIAai's underlying aim is to prepare the nation for an AI-powered future.
